Dearly โ€” slow letters from real people ยท Last updated June 13, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Dearly ("we", "us", "our"), operated by Pulkit Aggarwal, collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Dearly app. By using Dearly you agree to this policy. Dearly is for users aged 16 and older.

1. Information we collect

Account: when you sign in with a third-party provider (such as Google), we receive your name and email address to create your account.

Profile: your pen name, date of birth (used only to show your age and confirm you are 16+), gender, country, an approximate city, an optional profile photo, interests, languages, your intro letter, and answers to profile prompts.

Content: the letters and photos you send, Campfire answers, reactions, and stamp gifts. Letters are personal content shared only with the member you write to.

Technical: a push-notification token for your device, basic app and log data, and limited diagnostics needed to run the service.

Location: we use only an approximate city you choose, and we store it coarsened (rounded to roughly city level). Dearly does NOT collect your precise GPS location.

2. How we use your information

To create and operate your account; deliver your letters and notifications; suggest kindred pen pals; run the Campfire and stamp features; keep the community safe (moderation, reviewing reports, enforcing our rules); process Dearly Plus subscriptions; and improve the app.

3. AI features

If you use optional AI writing assistance, the relevant text you submit is sent to our AI provider (DeepSeek) to generate suggestions, and may be used in a limited, automated way to improve matching. We do not sell your letters, and we ask you not to put sensitive personal information into AI prompts.

4. How we share information

With other members: only as needed for correspondence (your profile is visible to members, and your letters go to the person you write to).

With service providers who process data on our behalf: Google Firebase (authentication, database, push messaging, and cloud functions), Google Play (subscription billing), and DeepSeek (AI writing assistance). These providers handle data under their own terms and privacy policies.

We do NOT sell your personal information or your letters. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect users' safety.

5. Data security

Your data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored on Google Cloud infrastructure with access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

6. Data retention & deletion

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile โ†’ Delete account) or via our account deletion page. When you delete your account we remove your profile and pen code. Letters you already sent remain with the people you wrote to, like real mail you cannot un-send. We may retain limited records for a reasonable period where needed for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.

7. Children & child safety

Dearly is not for anyone under 16. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation. Please see our Child Safety Standards.

8. International transfers

Your information may be processed on servers located outside your country. Where we transfer data internationally, we rely on the safeguards offered by our service providers.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. You can exercise these rights in the app or by contacting us. We comply with applicable data-protection laws, including the GDPR and India's DPDP Act where they apply.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
